Dr. John Karwowski is a board-certified vascular surgeon with expertise in the full spectrum of vascular disease, specializing in minimally invasive interventions for vascular disease.
A graduate of Tufts University College of Medicine, Dr. John Karwowski completed his residency in General Surgery as well as his fellowship training in Vascular Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine/Stanford University Hospital, California.
Fueled by his passion for medicine and helping others, Dr. Karwowski attended Rutgers University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1991. Immediately upon graduating, Karwowski continued his academic career by attending Tufts University School of Medicine and earning his Doctorate of Medicine in 1995. Afterwards, Dr. Karwowski conducted and completed his residency in general surgery, followed by his fellowship training in vascular surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine/Stanford University Hospital, CA.
Today, Dr. Karwowski has been a practicing surgeon for well over 22 years and is currently a vascular surgeon based in Baltimore, Maryland. Before this, Dr. John Karwowski was associated with several hospitals in the Miami, Florida area, including Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and University of Miami Hospital. He was one of 7 doctors at Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and one of 15 at University of Miami Hospital who specialized in Vascular Surgery.
And although he had paved a successful career for himself in Miami, Dr. John Karwowski had previously practiced in New York City. While in New York, Dr. Karwowski had been an attending surgeon at both New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center of New York, where he was also responsible for installing new surgical equipment.
As a vascular surgeon, Dr. Karwowski provides comprehensive care for patients with vascular disease. With his breadth of knowledge, years of experience and technical skill, Karwowski offers his patients proven vascular procedures, innovative minimally invasive treatments, and cutting-edge research in order to deliver unsurpassed care tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
Dr. Karwowski also has experience working at a number of high-profile hospitals and institutions. Most notably, he previously served as the chief of vascular surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He was also an assistant attending vascular surgeon at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Due to his decades-long professional career, Dr. Karwowski is well-versed on how the vascular system works with the rest of your body and can treat conditions that may cause blockages or build up.
Currently, John Karwowski serves as the Director of Vascular Acute Care Surgery at the University of Maryland. In this position, John is responsible for providing the utmost care and professionalism to his patients. John’s deep understanding of the vascular system and his decades of experience allow him to cure virtually all maladies pertaining to the vascular system. Additionally, he works as an associate professor of surgery at the university, where he passes on his vast amount of wealth to a new generation of surgeons through highly-detailed and comprehensive lesson plans.
